Local death still under investigation
A body found Wednesday in Brookhaven is still at the crime lab in Jackson, and the matter is being called a “suspicious death” by Lincoln County Deputy Coroner’s Investigator John Riggs.
Riggs and an official with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation were at the crime lab in Jackson Thursday.
The results of a blood toxicity report on the victim will come back later Friday, or possibly Saturday, Riggs said.
Investigators were also scanning over photos of the victim to determine identifying markers that would be useful in the identification of the body, said Riggs.
Brookhaven police discovered the body, which had burns on it, on Washington Street somewhere between 4:30 and 5 p.m. Wednesday.
While the autopsy has been completed, according to Riggs, the “suspicious” circumstances regarding the death of the victim are still being investigated at this time.
Officials could not release the identity of the deceased at this time or whether the body was male or female.
“We are still working on an ID. There are still bits and pieces of information that continue to come in,” Riggs said.
