BRAG prepares for Christmas
On Dec. 6 The Brookhaven Regional Arts Guild will be debuting its first annual Christmas celebration entitled Christmas By the Tracks.
The event will take place in downtown Brookhaven and will feature “local artists selling lots of different thing for that special person,” Nancy Hanks Myers, a member of BRAG, said.
Among the artistic items for sale will be jewelry, aprons, pottery and canvases featuring painted Christmas scenes, which “would be perfect little Christmas gifts for teachers,” Myers said.
Myers said the Brookhaven Little Theatre will be performing a short scene from its play “Dad’s Christmas Miracle” once in the morning and once more in the afternoon. Friends of the Library will have a station where kids can take pictures with Santa Claus.
Christmas By the Tracks will start at 10 a.m. and last until 3 p.m., and those involved have high expectations for the day.
“I hope by the time the afternoon gets there we won’t have anything left to sell,” Myers said.
Myers said BRAG members expect Christmas By the Tracks to be the start of something new. The Brookhaven Tour of Homes will happen on the same day and Myers said all the planned events are working together in unison.
“It’s all a good reason to come to Brookhaven and shop,” she said.
Myers encourages any artist living in Brookhaven to join BRAG. The organization can be found via Facebook under Brookhaven Regional Arts Guild where there will be live updates regarding more specific times, venues, items for sale and other pertinent information about Christmas By the Tracks.
“It’s going to be a good place to be,” Myers said.
She likens the event to the beginnings of Jazz Fest in New Orleans in the context of starting small with hopes of becoming a larger annual event. Myers said the organization will add more things to Christmas By the Tracks every year and with each year to be able to actually have the event closer to the tracks to better fit the event’s title. In addition, she hopes the event will become an annual attraction to downtown Brookhaven and the city as a whole.
