Brookhaven’s Leo Lewis has plenty of fans at Mississippi State, but he also has at least two at Brigham Young University.

A BYU season ticket holder wrote a letter to the MSU athletic department, bragging on Lewis after an encounter his son had with the linebacker earlier in the season.

“I stand on the side, overlooking the athletes as they enter into the field of play or coming into the locker room. My son will go down, and put out his hand, and have some high fives with the visiting team,” Jason Seymour wrote in a letter Lewis posted to Twitter. “Over all the years of watching this, your team, and especially number 44, had a meaningful moment with my son, and me in particular. That young man is everything that is right in this world. He could have run out of the locker room, just put his hand out — and I don’t expect more. But to watch him interact with the young kids, that were in awe of him. To run out of his way, to make those kids feel special, and to kneel down and get to their eye level was just awesome.”

Lewis finished the regular season as SEC Freshman of the Week. He racked up 72 tackles for the Bulldogs this season. He was also named to the All-Southeastern Conference Freshman Team as voted on by the league’s coaches, the SEC announced recently. He leads all SEC freshmen in tackles and is 23 better than the next closest SEC freshman. Lewis is 18th overall in the conference in tackles.

Lewis was also named the SEC Freshman of the Year (defense) by Athlon Sports.

Lewis and the rest of the Bulldogs will close their 2016 season in the St. Petersburg Bowl against Miami (Ohio), Dec. 26 at 10 a.m. on ESPN.
