Police ID body found on Washington Street
The body found on Washington Street has been identified as a McComb man, and police are investigating the matter as a homicide, said Brookhaven Chief of Police Bobby Bell.
The body of Cornelius D. Porter, 28, of 1013 Douglas Drive, McComb, was found last Wednesday by Brookhaven police somewhere between 4:30-5 p.m. on Washington St.
The body, which had burns on it, was transported to the crime lab in Jackson.
Investigators with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, the Lincoln County Coroner’s office and the Brookhaven police have all contributed to the investigation, which has been noted as a “suspicious death” by Lincoln County Deputy Coroner’s Investigator, John Riggs.
Police wanted to notify the next of kin before releasing the victim’s identification to the public, said Bell.
Riggs could not be reached for comment Wednesday morning.
