Halloween at The Haven: Special holiday treat coming up Tuesday
Brookhaven Little Theatre will open the doors of The Haven during Halloween week for a family-friendly program featuring familiar characters and lots of magic.
“Halloween at The Haven” returns in its original format, encouraging costumes worn by anyone who attends. The event, which is a fundraiser for Save the Haven, is Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 7:30 p.m.
Doors open at 6:45 p.m. for a Meet and Greet/Autograph Party in the lobby with “Disney” princesses, and even a few princes.
A professional magic show featuring Robert Day will begin at 7:30 p.m. on stage. Day delights audiences with years of experience and performs live, mystifying magic, said BLT volunteers.
At the meet and greet prior to the magic show, children can say hello to their favorite princesses, including Snow White, Sleeping Beauty (with Prince Phillip), Cinderella, Jasmine (with Aladdin), Belle, Ariel (with Prince Eric), Poncahontas (with John Smith), Rapunzel, Tiana from “The Princess and the Frog,” Merida from “Brave,” Tinkerbell and Wendy from Peter Pan.
Local teens in costume will portray the royalty as they interact with children.
Each child attending will receive an autograph card to use for collecting signatures from the princesses and princes. Photographs are encouraged.
“Many times events like these are the ways that children first experience Brookhaven Little Theatre,” said Katherine Shell, who is playing “Aurora” (or Sleeping Beauty).
“Once they see how much fun the theater can be, they may be interested in summer drama camp or trying out for another production,” Shell added.
The next production for Brookhaven Little Theatre this year is a Christmas comedy called “Fruitcakes” that will involve actors of different age ranges.
While productions continue during the regular play season, renovation projects also are ongoing through the Save the Haven effort.
BLT Volunteer JoAnna Sproles said there are still projects to complete in the auditorium area to improve the overall quality of shows.
“We are still considering ways to improve the stage area, sound and lighting,” Sproles said. “Then, we will also look at seating. So much has been done in the last five years, but there is still much more to do.”
Sproles invited everyone to come out for Halloween at the Haven and help with the ongoing upgrades to the theater.
“Families are encouraged to come, everyone is invited to wear their Halloween costumes, even adults if they can,” she said. “We want everyone to have fun and enjoy a great, live show during Halloween week.”
Admission for Halloween at the Haven is $5 per person at the door. The admission is already included for season ticket holders.
Season tickets will also be available for purchase at this event, since it will be the first show for the year. Season tickets are $45 and include entrance into all regular season and summer performances.
