2014 diplomas to be handed out across the local region
Throughout the area, commencement ceremonies are the order of the day on high school campuses, as 2014 graduates walk the stage and receive their long-awaited diplomas, the well-deserved recognition for 12 years of hard work and scholarship.
While Brookhaven Academy held its graduation May 9, the remaining high schools in the four-county region are looking forward to commencement Thursday and Friday.
While a few have yet to make the announcement, most area schools have revealed their top two graduates for 2014.
Valedictorians and salutatorians for Lincoln, Copiah, Franklin and Lawrence County area schools are:
• Bogue Chitto Attendance Center: Valedictorian, Jeremy Austin Buffington, son of Kenny Joe and Jenny Buffington; salutatorian, Heather Crosby, daughter of Julie Phillips.
• Brookhaven High School, not announced as of Thursday morning.
• Brookhaven Academy, Valedictorian, Garrett Smith, son of Carl and Malisia Smith, and Salutatorian, Lindsey Winborne, daughter of Stan and Sandy Winborne.
• Enterprise Attendance Center: Valedictorian, Allie Reid, daughter of Jan and Jody Reid; salutatorian, Sara Terrell, daughter of Lucy Acy.
• Franklin County High School: Valedictorian, Trynise McKnight, daughter of Timothy Lee; salutatorian, Quin Carlock, daughter of Ray and Janet Carlock.
• Lawrence County High School: Valedictorian, Benjamin Rushing, son of Michael and Charemon Rushing; salutatorian, Carrie Grace Jones, daughter of Wren Allen Jones.
• Loyd Star Attendance Center, Valedictorian, Haley Smith, daughter of Gary and Mandy Smith; salutatorian, Reagan Myers, daughter of Rickey and Paula Myers.
• Mississippi School of the Arts: Valedictorian, Sarah Altman of Pelahatchie, daughter of Carol Little and Mervyn Altman; salutatorian, Rita Albert of Collinsville, daughter of Joan and James Albert.
• West Lincoln Attendance Center: Valedictorian, Jonah King, son of Jeff and Angie King; salutatorian, Savannah Rushing, daughter of Brad and Dana Rushing.
• Wesson Attendance Center, not announced as of Thursday morning.
