Bears advance, knocks off Lake

LAKE – The West Lincoln Bears will continue their Cinderella season this weekend as they knocked off the Lake Hornets 7-3 in Game Three baseball action in round two of the Class 2A state playoff race.

The Bears (19-7, 7-3) will advance to the third round and will have to travel to Taylorsville to play the Taylorsville Tartars Friday at 7:30 p.m. West Lincoln returns home to host Taylorsville Saturday for Game Two starting at 7 p.m.

The Bears and Hornets provided another great game for their baseball fans as both teams fought hard to advance to the next round.

West Lincoln came out and set the tone of the game in the first inning as they captured a 3-0 lead. Lake answered in the bottom of the first as they cut down West Lincoln’s lead to 3-2.

The Bears continued to roll offensively as they outscored the Hornets with 4-1 throughout the rest of the game to eliminate Lake from the playoffs.

Brady Wilson dominated the pitchers mound as he went the distance. He struck out six batters and gave up three walks.

Matt Mitchell suffered the loss for Lake with four strikeouts and two walks. Justin Barrett (4K. 0BB) also saw some action on the mound in relief.

Jeremy Burns was the offensive leader at the plate for the Bears with a double and two singles. Ty Forman and Austin Burris contributed two singles apiece. Alex Neal had a double. Hitting safely were Chase Buckles, Tyler Moak and Bryce Temple.

Lake was lead offensively by Matt Mitchell, Bryson Luke, Jay Johnston, Josh Spivey and Logan LeBlanc with a single each.
