WESSON – Tuesday was a bittersweet day for the Copiah-Lincoln Lady Wolves softball team. The Lady Wolves sent their sophomores off with a comeback 4-3 win over East Mississippi in the regular season finale.
However, later in the day, bad news would come when Pearl River swept a divisional doubleheader from East Central eliminating the Lady Wolves (26-15, 18-11) from MACJC State Tournament contention.

Sophomores Kacie Berry, Kayla Craft, Beth Fortenbery, Brooke Gonzales, Meghan Johnson, Missy Romero and Hannah Roberts were honored in a pre-game ceremony.
The Lady Lions from Scooba jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning and had all semblance of momentum before a big fifth inning for Co-Lin. EMCC added another run in the top of the fourth inning on a solo home run by Roberts to take a 3-0 lead.
The Lady Wolves scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take the 4-3 lead. Kacie Berry reached on an error to lead off the inning. Kayla Craft drew a walk. Meghan Johnson reached on a fielder’s choice. Brooke Gonzales walked to load the bases. Brooke Laigast singled to center to score Craft. Roberts singled to left to score Johnson and pull the Lady Wolves to 3-2. Missy Romero’s RBI single to center plated Gonzales and Laigast and gave Co-Lin the 4-3 lead.
“Meghan did a super job and we got some timely hits today,” said Lady Wolves head coach Allen Kent. “We finished sophomore day on a good note and I’m proud of the way we’ve closed out the season (winning eight of their final nine games).”
Hannah Roberts led the Lady Wolves with a pair of singles and one RBI. Laigast (1 RBI), Romero (1 RBI), Craft and Johnson added support with a single apiece.
For the Lady Lions, Abby Roberts led the way with a double and a home run for two RBIs. Albritton added a double. Also adding support were Corey Dawkins, Stanfield, Pepper Baker and Tori Seymour.
Johnson picked up the win in relief of starter Gonzales. The sophomore from Copiah Academy pitched the final four innings and gave up four hits, one run and struck out three. Gonzales tossed three innings allowing two runs on three hits and struck out one.
Absorbing the loss was Halie Green who tossed six innings. She allowed one earned run on six hits, struck out five and walked three.
