Southwest Mississippi Community College men’s basketball assistant coach Thomas Gray has resigned to take a position on the staff of new UT-Martin head coach Heath Schroyer. A native of Memphis, TN, Gray graduated from Columbia (MS) Academy and was in his third year with the Bears.
Southwest head coach Casey Carter was full of praise for his now former assistant. “Words will never do justice to how much Thomas Gray has meant to me personally, to Southwest and to the Southwest men’s basketball team,” Carter said. “He has been with me every step of the way through this journey of making Southwest basketball what it is today.”
“His work ethic, relationship with players/recruits and his energy will be greatly missed,” Carter continued. “But, more importantly, his character and faith will be the legacy he leaves behind at Southwest. Thomas is a great young coach, but is an even better person. I wish him all the best at UT-Martin and I know he will do a great job there.”
The search for a new assistant coach will begin soon.
