Wesson players advance to State

NATCHEZ – The Wesson Cobra netters enjoyed some success on the courts in the 3A Regional Individuals Tournament action at Duncan Park last week.

Wesson’s Brandi McInnis won the girls singles event by defeating Franklin County’s Brianna Brumfield in the finals 6-1, 6-0.

Erich Fischer of Wesson finished in first place in the boys singles contest after defeating Franklin County’s Kane Gillian 6-2, 6-4 and winning his second match against West Marion’s Chip Forbes 6-2, 6-1.

CJ Viramontez and Reid Crow won the boys doubles event after defeating Franklin County 6-3, 7-6 in the finals.

Logan Channel and Kimberly San finished in second place in mixed double action. They defeated Franklin County 6-4, 10-6, but lost in the finals to West Marion 4-6, 5-6.

These individuals will advance to the State Individual Tournament which will be held at Ridgeland Tennis Center on May 1-2.

In team action, Wesson will be in action Friday as they prepare to host the Sumrall Bobcats in the opening round of the state playoffs at the Co-Lin Community College’s tennis courts, starting at 4 p.m.
