Jones Co. Bobcats sweep Wolves

ELLISVILLE – The Jones County baseball team, ranked number one in the nation, lived up to their billing as they held Copiah-Lincoln to a combined six hits in a doubleheader sweep, 8-0 and 5-0, on Tuesday in Ellisville.

Jones 8, Co-Lin 0 

The Wolves (9-21, 5-7) finished game one with more errors (three) than hits (two). Adrian Brown and Mitch Little each had a double for the Wolves.

Westin Stringer picked up the win for Jones (28-4, 9-3) by going six innings and allowing one hit, one walk, and striking out two. Newt Brown took the loss for Co-Lin after going 4.1 innings and giving up four earned runs on six hits. The freshman from Gautier struck out two and walked three. Freshman Tanner Parvin pitched the final 1.2 innings and gave up one earned run on four hits while striking out one.

Jones 5, Co-Lin 0 

The Wolves hit the ball better in game two, collecting four hits, but again committed three errors.

Shortstop Ryan Young led the Co-Lin batters by going 2-for-3 with two singles. Adrian Brown and Colby Whitfield also singled for the Wolves.

Daniel Goff gained the win for Jones after pitching six innings, giving up four hits, and striking out six. Co-Lin starter Shane Brown went the distance and held Jones to five hits in six innings while giving up two earned runs.

Co-Lin is back in action on Saturday, April 5, when they travel to Pearl River for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. The doubleheader will be a seven-inning game followed by a nine-inning game. Live audio of both games will be broadcast on colinathletics.com and WMJU 104.3 FM in Brookhaven.
