The Junior Auxiliary of Brookhaven is celebrating 60 years of community service, said president Glenda Hux.

Invitations have been sent out to current members, associate and lifetime members. Hux said there are many RSVPs still out there and she wants to remind the members to send them in as soon as possible.

“Many from out of town have already responded,” she said, “and have made special plans to attend. We’re expecting a great turnout.”

The celebration will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, at the Ole Town Church, 220 South Jackson St. in downtown Brookhaven.

The annual celebration has traditionally been held as a luncheon, but this year it will be an evening celebration.

“It’s such an eventful occasion,” Hux said, “And, we wanted to accommodate as many members as possible – We have so many past members that are unable to attend a luncheon due to their work schedules. So this year we are planning it so all of the working women can attend, too.”

She said there will be a special presentation of the organization’s 60-year history.

“This year’s banquet will honor all past members and charter members,” Hux said. “We did not want to just single out one person for the Golden Crown award – we wanted to show that all of our past and present members are Golden Crown recipients in our eyes.”

As part of the celebration there will be a display of JA memorabilia and mementos in the media room and at the entrance to Lincoln County Library from April 1 to April 15. The group has also secured permission to permanently display their charter on the walls of the genealogy section on the second floor of the library.
