Mrs. Lain, 89, died March 23, 2014, at Country Brook Living Center. She was born on Oct. 24, 1924, in Brookhaven to Elgin Roberts and Bessie K. Roberts.

She was a member of Brookhaven Church of Christ. She retired from Silver Cross Nursing Home after many years of dedicated service. She was also assistant manager of the Stop-N-Wash Laundry Mat. The countless number of friends she made while working followed her throughout the years.

Wanita had many lifelong friends including June Smith and Rosemary Graves, whom she spent many countless hours with shopping in Walmart and Sack-N-Save, where she always saw someone she knew and with a smile on her face asked “How are you doing?”.

Wanita had a love for cats, dogs and birds. Her passion was making sure they were well taken care of and well fed. Years ago, any night of the week, she and Rosemary would walk around downtown carrying food to feed the stray animals that came out of their hiding places to receive the food that the ladies brought to them. She was a loving, caring person who will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents.

Survivors are her son, Earnest W. Lain and wife, Becky A, of Cookeville, Tenn.; cousin Paula Cullins of Arkansas; three grandchildren, Charles I. Lain and wife, Lisa, of Wesson, Allen W. Lain and wife, Casey, of Brookhaven, and Laurie Temple of Lafayette, La.; and eight great-grandchildren, Andy Eitel, Justin Lain, Victoria Lain, Cody Temple, Charley Lain, Aleyia Kees, Branden Stewart, and Don Hux.
