Lady Bears clip Cathedral

The West Lincoln Lady Bears clipped the Natchez Cathedral Lady Green Wave 5-4 to secure their first win to begin the 2014 fastpitch softball season Saturday at West Lincoln.
The Lady Bears also hosted a tournament, as did the baseball team. So baseball and softball fans had plenty to watch on a warm and beautiful day of activities Saturday. In the softball classic tournament Bogue ,Chitto and Natchez Cathedral participated in the event.
The Lady Bears (1-0) resumes action Monday as they visit their Lincoln County archrivals, the Bogue Chitto Lady Cats. Junior varsity action begins at 5 p.m., followed by varsity action at 6 p.m.
West Lincoln 5, Cathedral 4
West Lincoln and Cathedral provided an exciting game to begin the season as both teams battled to a one-all tie in the first inning.
In the fourth inning, the Lady Bears managed to break up the tied game as they pushed one run across.
In the fifth inning, the Lady Green Wave rallied back to grab the lead at 4-2, but West Lincoln fought back to tie the game at 4-all in the bottom of the fifth.
In the sixth inning, the Lady Bears recaptured the lead 5-4 and held on in the seventh inning to claim the win.
Malori Hall pitched the win in relief, collecting four strikeouts and allowing two walks. Micah Redd (10K, 2BB) was the starting pitcher for the Lady Bears.
Emily Rusco suffered the setback for Cathedral with no strikeouts, one walk and allowing two hits. Elizabeth Smith (6K, 2BB) started for the Lady Green Wave.
Malori Hall was the offensive leader at the plate for West Lincoln with a double and a single. Alli Mullins had a triple, and Destiny Allen singled.
McKezie Milligan directed the Lady Green Wave offense with three singles. Smith had a triple. Tori Smith ripped a double. Baylee Graining, Mackenzie Watts and Rusco hit safely.
