FLORENCE – The Bogue Chitto Bobcats continued to stay on fire as the Lady Cats roared past the McLaurin Lady Tigers 46-28 Saturday afternoon to extend their winning streak to seven games in a non-divisional contest.

In boys action, the Bobcats are also riding a seven-game win streak after defeating the Tigers 53-47.

Bogue Chitto will be in action Monday as they visit Utica to take on the Hinds AHS Bulldogs in a makeup game that was rescheduled due to the winter storm that occurred over a week ago. The girls are scheduled to tip off at 6 p.m., followed by the boys.

Bogue Chitto 46, McLaurin 28 

The Lady Cats (20-5, 8-2) charged back after a slow performance in the first quarter to outscore the Lady Tigers 17-11 in the second quarter to take a 28-20 lead into halftime.

In the second half, BC continued to roll as they hammered McLaurin 24-8 to claim the win.

Sophomore guard Zariah Matthews provided the offensive charge to lead the Lady Cats with 16 points. Senior Mattie Avants continued the scoring feast with 12 points. Christian Black controlled the boards for BC with seven rebounds and scored nine points.

“We started off slow, and it took us a while to finally wake up to take over the tempo of the game,” said BC coach Christi Terrell. “We struggled with our outside shooting as we hit pieces of the rim. Overall, this was a physical game, which will hopefully prepare us for our opponents Monday. I’m very proud of the girls for continuing to fight and come up with another good win.”

Bogue Chitto 53, McLaurin 47 

The Bobcats (10-15, 6-4) came out and quickly jumped on the Tigers to grab a 18-5 lead in the first quarter and command a 26-19 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Tigers rallied to outscore Bogue Chitto 28-27, but failed to put a dent in BC’s lead.

Senior Dennis Rogers poured in team-high 17 points to lead the Bobcats. Damien Terrell provided a double-double performance of 14 points and 12 rebounds.

“It was great to get the win,” said BC coach Mark Pitts. “The guys played hard, but we still need to improve on the little things to get better.”

Justin Davis was the top scorer for the Tigers with 26 points.
