Winter weather closings announced in area

A number of closings due to the winter weather have already been announced, and more were shutting down for the day as conditions worsened Tuesday morning.
Sleet was falling heavily in Brookhaven Tuesday morning, and additional precipitation in the form of snow, sleet and freezing rain is predicted Tuesday and possibly continuing into Wednesday morning. (Please see related winter weather stories).
The Brookhaven public schools, Lincoln County public schools, Brookhaven Academy, Copiah County public schools, Franklin County public schools and Lawrence County public schools are closed Tuesday.
Area school officials will make a decision on Wednesday’s schedule by Tuesday afternoon.
All campuses of Copiah-Lincoln Community College are closed on Tuesday. A decision on Wednesday will be made at a later time.
The Brookhaven School Board meeting previously scheduled for Tuesday night has been rescheduled for Thursday night at 6:30.
The Lincoln County Courthouse is closed Tuesday due to the weather.
Brookhaven Day at the Capitol, originally scheduled for Tuesday has been rescheduled.
The Wesson Chamber of Commerce banquet, which had been scheduled for Tuesday night, has been postponed.
The Lincoln Country Forestry Association banquet, originally scheduled for Tuesday night, has been posponed.
Gov. Phil Bryant delayed the opening of state offices until 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Jackson metro area due to winter weather and potentially hazardous road conditions. On Monday , Gov. Bryant gave agency heads the discretion to delay openings or close state offices south of I-20 due to potential impacts of winter weather in those areas.
