Thrilling jr. high tourney action for local teams

The Lincoln County junior high tournament provided a lot excitement Thursday night as basketball fans gathered to witness their young players battle hard for a shot to have their school represented in the championship game Monday at Loyd Star.
In the girls’ games, the West Lincoln Lady Bears edged the Bogue Chitto Lady Cats 27-25 in the opener. The Enterprise Lady Jackets cruised past the Loyd Star Lady Hornets 31-14.
In boys’ action, The Bears roared past the Bobcats 41-20, and the Hornets surpassed the Jackets 38-30.
Tournament action continues Monday for the junior high players as the Bogue Chitto Lady Cats battle the Loyd Star Lady Hornets in the girls’ consolation game at 4 p.m. In the boys’ consolation game, Enterprise tangles with Bogue Chitto at 5 p.m.
The Lady Bears take on the Lady Jackets in the girls’ championship game at 6 p.m., followed by the boys’ championship contest with the Hornets welcoming the Bears at 7 p.m.
West Lincoln 27, Bogue Chitto 25
Skylar Hall pumped in a team-high eight points to lead the Lady Bears. Jana Case contributed six points and Destiny Wallace added five points.
Lineka Newson was the top scorer for the Lady Cats with 11 points. Karlie Hux and Baileigh Jackson provided eight points apiece.
West Lincoln 41, Bogue Chitto 20
The Bears got off to a fast start and overpowered the Bobcats to secure the win.
Adam Martinez netted a game-high 12 points to lead the Bears. LaDarius Jones and Nick Brumfield contributed 10 points apiece.
Malik Richardson was the top performer for the Bobcats with 10 points. Darius Porter added eight points.
Enterprise 31, Loyd Star 14
The Lady Jackets (11-1) are having a great season as they quickly set the tone of the game and cruised past the Loyd Star Lady Hornets to claim the win.
Carlee Nations was the offensive leader for the Lady Jacket with 14 points. Kaylee Burgess chipped in with 10 points.
Andrea Butler and Jelecea Smith paced the Lady Hornets (4-7) with four points apiece.
Loyd Star 38, Enterprise 30
The Hornets (10-1) and Jackets (7-5) battled in a tough offensive and defensive contest as both teams fought back and forth from start to finish.
In the first half, Enterprise came out of the gates strong as they quickly jumped ahead of Loyd Star 10-4, but the Hornets charged back to secure a 23-17 lead at halftime and then never looked back.
Dane Gregory Smith pumped in 14 points to lead the Hornets. Patrick Price, Zabian Price and Cade Hodge contributed eight points apiece.
Jontavious Smith was the top shooter for the Jackets with 14 points. Peyton Jergins and Cade Feltus helped with five points each.
