The Brookhaven Academy Lady Cougars did not let Trinity spoil their holiday spirit Friday night as they clobbered the Lady Saints 48-31 in the opening day of BA’s Christmas Invitational Tournament.

In other girls’ tournament results, the Madison St. Joseph Lady Bruins edged Parklane 49-47, East Rankin defeated Prairie View 52-42 and the Lady Bucs of Bowling Green surpassed Marshall 49-44.

Tournament games continued Saturday and will conclude on Monday with three consolation games and two championship games. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. for the consolation games, while the championship games are slated to start at 7 p.m.

Brookhaven Academy will also be in action Friday as they visit Natchez for their first district test against the Adams County Christian School Rebels and Lady Rebels. Six games are schedule for the contest beginning at 3 p.m.

Brookhaven Acad. 48, Trinity 31 

The Brookhaven Academy and Trinity girls were not phased with a late night game as the Lady Cougars came out strong hammered the Lady Saints in the first half to claim a 34-12 lead at halftime.

In the second half, the Lady Cougars turned off the offensive fireworks and relied on their tough defense to keep Trinity in check as they coasted to the victory.

Junior forward Hillary Wilson was the offensive leader for the Lady Cougars (8-6) with a game-high 17 points and five rebounds. Marlee Watts paced Brookhaven Academy on the boards with seven rebounds and chipped in eight points. Madison Warren also scored eight points.

“We had a great shoot around early this morning and it carried over with a great start offensively against Trinity,” said BA coach Mack Gardner. “Overall, I am pleased to get the win, but we still need to improve on our decision making skills in games.”

Rosa Williams directed the Lady Saints’ offense with nine points. Marty Lewis helped with eight points.

St. Joseph 49, Parklane 47 

Nina German was the offensive leader for the Lady Bruins with 21 points. Dymond Jackson contributed 16 points.

Senior forward Hannah Moak was the top scorer for the Lady Pioneers with 10 points. Julianna Adams provided nine points.

East Rankin 52, Prairie View 42 

Katelyn Keeton pumped in a team-high 15 points to lead East Rankin. Annabeth Bowman helped with 13 points.

Amery Clark paced Prairie View’s offense with 19 points. Dani Anderson chipped in with 12 points.

Bowling Green 49, Marshall 44 

Kristina Jarrell led Bowling Green with a game-high 18 points. Reagan Moody had 10 points.

Blake Martin directed Marshall’s offense with team-high 17 points.
