Mississippi high school football players have one more shot to showcase their football skills in the Bernard Blackwell All-Star Classic Saturday. Kickoff is at 11:30 a.m. at Gulfport’s Joseph Milner Stadium.

Saturday’s all-star game will have four local/area players playing on the South squad that will be representing their communities and schools. The players are Fred Trevillion of Brookhaven, Johnkil Skipper of Hazlehurst, Alex Woodall of McComb and Ethan Frith of North Pike.

General admission tickets will be available at the gate for only $10 per person with all seats general admission. The game is being played for the fifth straight year on the Gulf Coast.

The game will also be televised statewide for the fourth straight year. The 65th Annual Bernard Blackwell Classic will be carried by the flagship station of WLOX of Biloxi and broadcast on the following local stations: WMC, Memphis, TN; WLBT, Jackson; WTOK, Meridian; WDAM, Hattiesburg; WABG, Greenville; WTVA, Tupelo; and WLOX, Biloxi. Russ Robinson will handle the TV play-by-play of the game with Ricky Mitchell providing color commentary.

The North squad will be coached by Chris Chambless of West Point, while the South squad will be led by Brad Breland of Union. The South leads the series over the North 30-26-4.

In last year’s contest, the South toppled the North 34-13 in the 64th Classic played in Gulfport. The Most Valuable Offensive Player for the South was Khadarel Hodge of Mendenhall, while Jefferson County’s Cody Gilchrist was selected as the South’s Most Valuable Defensive Player.

The North’s Most Valuable Offensive Player was Grenada’s Payne Horan, while the North’s Most Valuable Defensive Player was DeShadrick Truly of Charleston.

The Bill Stewart Award winner for the South was East Marion’s Antron Watts, while the North Bill Stewart Award winner was Clifton Smith of Oxford.

The Bernard Blackwell All Star Football Classic is formerly known as the Mississippi High School All Star Football Game and was originated in 1950 by Mississippi State coach Arthur “Slick” Morton.

The MAC assumed sponsorship of the game from the Jackson Touchdown Club in 1993. In 1994, the game was renamed for Coach Bernard Blackwell, the late executive director of MAC.

Trevillion (6-0, 195)  a versatile athlete at Brookhaven, helped lead the Panthers to a 9-4 record this season. He can play many positions for Ole Brook, but was a leader at quarterback. Trevillion passed for 1,668 yards and rushed for 650 yards in his senior year.

Skipper (6-0, 275)  anchored the Hazlehurst squad on defense. He was the Indians’ leader on the defensive line. Skipper had 100 tackles on the season, which averages 7 tackles per game.

Woodall (6-4, 235)  was the triggerman and team captain for McComb. In his senior year, he has passed for 1992 yards and rushed for 322 yards. The Tigers finished 6-5 on the season under the leadership of coach Malcolm Jones.

Frith (6-8, 300)  was the primary player on North Pike’s offensive line. Frith used his strength and other skills to protect the quarterback and create running lanes for the Jaguars’ running backs. He also helped on defense with a total of 36 tackles.
