Graveside services for Leta Rembert Covington Batson are 2 p.m. on Sunday in the Garden of Memories Cemetery, 4900 Airline Drive, Metairie, LA 70001. Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Batson, 91, wife of deceased Dr. Hiram Watkins Kostmayer Batson, died peacefully on Nov. 17 at Hospice Ministries of Ridgeland. She was born in Summit and was the daughter of the late Edward Gordon Covington Sr. and the late Mazie Willis Covington of Summit. She was the sister of the late Edward Gordon Covington Jr. of Summit, and the late Frances Covington Loyd of Shreveport, Louisiana.
She was a 1943 graduate of Sophie Newcomb College where she was a member of the Phi Mu Sorority. She was also a lifetime member of the National Association of Junior Auxiliary, East Jefferson Hospital Auxiliary, Metairie Woman’s Club and received the Outstanding Woman of the Year in 2001-2002. She was a member of Grace Chapel Presbyterian Church in Madison.
Preceding her in death was a grandson, Christopher Andrew Branch of Ponchatoula, La.
She is survived by three sons; Gordon Theodore Batson and his wife, Judy, of Madison; James Covington Batson and his wife, Nancy, of Ridgeland; and Thomas Bryan Batson and his wife, Christie, of Gulfport; a daughter, Leta Marion Batson Branch and her husband, Charles, of Ponchatoula, La.; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
The family requests memorial donations be made to the Dr. Hiram W. K. Batson Trust Fund, Department OB-GYN, Tulane University Medical School, 1430 Tulane Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70112.
