Wesson captures two over BC

WESSON – The Wesson Cobras ruled the court Monday night by dominating the Bogue Chitto Bobcats 96-38. In the girls’ games, the Lady Cobras trailed the Lady Bobcats all night but pulled out a 44-43 win with a final second’s basket by sophomore Jashia Smith.
The Cobras play on the road Friday night, against the Magee High School Trojans. The junior varsity boys’ game starts at 5:00. Varsity action begin at 6:00 for the girls and 7:30 p.m. for the boys.

The Lady Cobras (2-2) upset the Bogue Chitto Lady Bobcats with a 44-43 win in an action packed game last night.
“Missed free throws on our part hurt us in the game,” said BC coach Christi Terrell. “Wesson hit key shots and free throws at the end. We did not perform well offensively tonight.”
Defensively, the Lady Bobcats gave Wesson misery with multiple steals but the Lady Cobras were able to pulled out the win.
Junior Kayla Britt led the Lady Cobras with a total of 15 points, which included one three point shot and six rebounds. Jashia Smith was the top defensive player with a total of 14 rebounds, three steals and an offensive showing of 12 points. Senior Brandi McInnis scored 11 points, three rebounds and three steals. The Lady Cobras were 12/21 in free throw action.
Bogue Chitto senior, Earlneshia Dillon, topped the Lady Bobcats list with a point total of 16 points. Top defensive player was sophomore Christian Black who had the most rebounds. The Lady Bobcats were 5/16 in free throw action. Three point shooters for Bogue Chitto were Sophomore Karlie Williams with two, Dillon with two, Senior Mattie Avants with one and Freshman Tukiyah Godbolt with one.
Coach Rusty Newman reflected on the win, “I’m proud of the girls for playing hard the entire game. When we got down, we continued to play hard and fought our way back in the game. We picked up our defensive intensity in the 2nd half and were able to knock down some open shots. Bogue Chitto is a great team and this was a good win for us.”

The Wesson Cobras (3-1) dominated the Bogue Chitto Bobcats with a 96-38 win.
Anthony Jones, Cobra sophomore, led the night with an impressive 29 points, three rebounds, and three steals. Top rebounder was senior Max Smith with 11 rebounds and a point total of 16. Junior Farrod Green also put points on the board with 13 points, three assists, and four rebounds. The Cobras were 13/23 in free throws. Three-point scorers were Jones, with three; Smith, with two; senior Marquis Lofton, with one; and Freshman Jeremy Smith, with one.
Bobcats top scorers were Dennis Rogers with eight points, and Jeremiah Perkins, Damien Terrell, Brock Roberts, and Dakota McGary, who scored six points each. The Bobcats had an average of 2/10 in free throw action.
Cobra Coach Rusty Newman commented on the win by stating, “Early on I thought we played sluggish, we fouled too much on defense and did not play well together offensively. As the game progressed, we really picked up the intensity and began to play better offensively.
“Bogue Chitto has some really athletic players. Once they get their football guys in the swing of things, they will be fine. Glad to get the win and everyone got some minutes in the game.”
