Funeral services for Bobby R. Smith of Meadville are 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 15, at Franklin Funeral Home, Meadville, with burial in Midway Cemetery. Franklin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Thursday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Friday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Smith, 82, passed away on Wednesday, Nov.13, 2013, peacefully at the Franklin County Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Smith was born Aug. 2, 1931, in Franklin County to Lawrence C. and Mattie Stroud Smith.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and in the Korean War. He was retired from the Franklin Telephone Co. where he worked for 30 years as an installer and repairman.

He was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. He served as a deacon and was chairman of the deacons for 25 years. He was a member of the Ben Franklin Lodge and served as Master Mason for four years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers; A.C. Smith and Sam Earl Smith; and a nephew, Bud Smith.

Survivors are his wife of 59 years, Vera Smith of Meadville; brothers, Lawrence Smith (Jr.) of Ruston, La. and Ben Smith and wife, Jean of Lake Dallas, Texas; sister-in-laws; Bobbie Smith of Nashville, Tenn., and Betty Smith Wimbs, of Tupelo; nieces; Evelyn Smith McFarland, Rene’ Smith Bryan, Jennifer Smith and Angie Smith Brewer; nephews; Murphy Smith, Chris Smith, Lorman Smith, Keith Smith, Kevin Smith, Karey Smith, Jeff Smith, Tony Smith and Sam Smith; special cousins; Edward Flowers Sr. and wife, Deborah, Edward “Bubba” Flowers Jr., and Angel Smith Davis; and a host of friends.
