MONTICELLO – The Mississippi Department of Transportation and area officials dedicated a stretch of Highway 184 as “Lawrence County Veteran’s Highway” in ceremonies Tuesday, Nov. 5.
Speakers at Tuesday afternoon’s program at the east intersection of Highway 184 with Highway 84 in Monticello included Southern Transportation Commissioner Tom King, Mayor Dave Nichols, Representative Bob Evans, Board of Supervisors President Steve Garrett, Jack Rhymes (Ret., Navy), and Hezekiah Brown (Ret., Army).
House Bill 757, unanimously passed during the 2013 Legislative Session, stated “that segment of U.S. Highway 184 beginning at the intersection with U. S. Highway 84 west of the city of Monticello and extending to the intersection with U.S. Highway 84 east of the City of Monticello is designated and shall be known as the Lawrence County Veteran’s Highway.”
“MDOT is honored to name this section of highway the “Lawrence County Veterans Highway” in recognition of the service and commitment of the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice so we can enjoy the many freedoms we have today,” said Commissioner Tom King.
“We hope that all the people who drive this section of highway will be reminded of those who continue to bravely serve to keep us safe and free.”
MDOT is erecting and maintaining signs to designate this section of highway as Veteran’s Highway.
