Services for Jeff D. Burkett, of Bogue Chitto, are 2 p.m. today,Feb. 2 at Brookhaven Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Mt.Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Burkett, 90, died Jan. 31, 2005, at G.V. “Sonny” MontgomeryVeterans Affairs Medical Center in Jackson. He was born inBassfield on April 5, 1914, to Cleve Burkett and Fannie ThompsonBurkett.

He was a cattleman. He was a veteran of the Army Air Forces andserved in World War II. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant BaptistChurch.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and his wife, RachelClark Burkett.

Survivors are his son, Jerry L. Burkett, and his wife, Maria, ofBogue Chitto; his sisters, Lucy Adams, of Indiana, Grace Danahue,of Hartford, Conn., and Sara Sciaky, of France; his brother, BillBurkett, of South Carolina; one grandson, Jeffrey L. Burkett, andhis wife, Tory; and one great-grandson, Steven Burkett.

Don M. Davis

Memorial services for Don M. Davis, of Monticello, are 11 a.m.Thursday, Feb. 3 at Community Funeral Services.

Visitation is Thursday from 9-11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Davis, 54, died Feb. 1, 2005, at his residence. He was bornin Lawrence County on Nov. 14, 1950, to Ernest Davis and ChristineCox Davis.

He was a self-employed painter.

Preceding him in death were his parents and one sister.

Survivors are his wife, Stephanie Davis, of Monticello; hisstepdaughters, Donna Rushing, of Tylertown, and Lynette Johnson, ofJayess; his stepson, Aaron Case, of Monticello; his brother, GaryDavis, of Monticello; and two grandchildren.

Alvin C. Slay Sr.

Services for Alvin C. Slay Sr., of Hermanville, are 2 p.m.Thursday, Feb. 3 at Stringer Family Funeral Services Chapel inHazlehurst with burial in Hopewell Cemetery.

Mr. Slay, 65, died Jan. 31, 2005, at Hardy Wilson MemorialHospital in Hazlehurst.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Copiah County. He was atimber broker and operated Slay’s Timber of Brookhaven. Mr. Slaywas a member of Hopewell Baptist Church and the Crystal SpringsMasonic Lodge.

Survivors are his wife, Frances Little Slay; his son, Alvin C.Slay Jr., of Hermanville; his daughter, DeAnn Wright, ofHermanville; his brothers, Bill Slay, of Jackson, and Jimmy Slay,of Kentucky; and one grandson.

Ellis Ainsworth Stuart Sr.

Services for Ellis Ainsworth Stuart Sr., of Wesson, are 11 a.m.Thursday, Feb. 3 at First Baptist Church in Hazlehurst with burialin Hazlehurst Cemetery.

Visitation is today from 5-8 p.m. at Stringer Family FuneralServices in Hazlehurst.

Mr. Stuart, 87, died Jan. 31, 2005, at his residence.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in Hazlehurst. He was anative and lifelong resident of Copiah County. Mr. Stuart servedtwo terms as constable and served with the Hazlehurst PoliceDepartment from 1957-1989. After retiring from the policedepartment, he served as director of security at Hardy WilsonHospital until his death.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Charles C. and AltheaStuart; his three brothers, F.H. Stuart, J.G. Stuart and PearlStuart; and two sisters, Bessie Carter and Maggie Slay.

Survivors are his wife, Myrtis Stuart; his son, Ellis A. StuartJr. of Hazlehurst; his daughters, Dot Brewer, of Hendersonville,Tenn., Sandra Sullivan, of Crystal Springs, Leisa Lide, of Pearl;his brother, Charlie Frank Stuart, of Wesson; a sister, EdithWhite, of Brookhaven; eight grandchildren; and 13great-grandchildren.
