Quick. That’s the word used to describe the Bogue Chitto Bobcatsafter a 45-21 victory over the host West Lincoln Bears.

The Bobcats (5-5, 3-1) were highlighted by the aggressiverunning to tailback Denard Ferguson. Ferguson, a 5-10, 170-poundjunior, burned the Bears with three touchdowns on seven carries for78 yards.

“We did what we had to do,” said Bogue Chitto head coach CarlCole following the win. “West Lincoln has a young, but talentedgroup. They should be something to deal with in the future.”

The Bobcats started the game with a quick 23 points in the firstframe of the game. Highlighting the first score was senior tailbackJohnathon Cutrer from 12 yards out. After Cutrer’s number wascalled upon again for the two-point conversion, the Bobcats led8-0.

A minute and a half later, the Bobcats found the endzone again.Bobcat junior Cody Wallace took a Bear punt back 57 yards foranother Bogue Chitto strike. After John Wallace added thetwo-pointer, the Bobcats held a quick 16-00 lead.

The Bobcats would continue their relentless scoring burst threeminutes later when Ferguson scored his first touchdown of the nightfrom six yards out. After the Ernie Johnson PAT, the Bobcatssecured a 23-0 lead.

As the second quarter began, the Bobcats picked up right wherethey left off. Junior quarterback Jacob Leggett sprinted 13 yardsfor the 30-0 lead. Bogue Chitto looked to continue their scoringmarch but West Lincoln senior safety Kalis Fells intercepted aLeggett pass at the Bobcat 49-line.

That Bobcat mistake set up the Bears first score of the night asjunior quarterback Cody Mitchell hit Clint Smith from 20 yards out.After the Mitchell run failed, the Bears trailed the Bobcats30-6.

Bogue Chitto would rebound as Ferguson dashed 20 yards for hissecond touchdown of the night. Elliot Lowe ran for the two-pointconversion and the Bobcats claimed a 38-6 lead at the half.

“We wanted to sub come guys in and out after the half,” saidCole. “Everybody got to play tonight.”

After a short halftime reunion, the Bears (3-6, 0-4) hit paydirtfrom eight yards out off a Mitchell to Smith connection. After aJacob Martin PAT, the Bears trailed the subbing Bobcats 38-13.

The fourth quarter featured the last score of the night by thepesky Bobcats. As Ferguson dashed 19 yards for the 45-13 Bobcatlead, the Bears would find an answer seconds later as Mitchellconnected to senior Blake Howse from seven yards out. After theMitchell to Adam Rushing two-point conversion, Bogue Chitto endedthe game with clock runners to savor the 45-21 victory.

“They (Bogue Chitto) overwhelmed us with their speed andquickness,” said first year Bear head coach Don Holston. “We’ve gota young team here that needs to get into the weight room before the2001 season.”

For the Bears, Stacey Fells led the ground attack with 106 yardson 15 carries. In the air, Mitchell gained 95 yards, going 7-for-16passing.

For the Bobcat offense, Cutrer led the running game with 100yards on 11 carries. Lowe chipped in with 10 rushes for 48yards.

On defense, West Lincoln was led by senior linebacker Cody Hallwith 15 tackles. Howse chipped in with 14 stops while Chase Howseissued 10 hits. Kalis Fells finished with six tackles a fumblerecovery and a pass interception.

For the Bogue Chitto defense, junior linebacker Lindsey Jacksonled with 9 tackles. Ace Wallace, John Wallace and Todd Davis eachearned 8 stops. Freshman Davis Adams collected 8 tackles, a fumblerecovery and an pass interception. Collecting other interceptionswere Scott Edwards and Mike Blackwell.

Bogue Chitto awaits a hopeful playoff spot as Dexter hostsEnterprise tonight to decide the divisional rankings. The Bobcatshost Class 2A Natchez Cathedral next Friday, Nov. 3. Game times is7:30 p.m.
