Brookhaven Academy takes care of Prentiss Christian

PRENTISS — On paper, Brookhaven Academy’s matchup with PrentissChristian School Friday night shouldn’t have been a close one. Butearly on, the Saints hung around and made Brookhaven Academy CoachBo Milton a little uneasy. When all was said and done, Milton wasable to breathe a little easier as he watched his Cougars roll to a39-7 victory. Brookhaven improved to 2-2 overall and 2-0 inDistrict 4-AA play.
Brookhaven received the opening kickoff and took just threeplays to march 65 yards and put the first points of the game on thescoreboard. Cougar running back Corey Dickerson scored on a 15-yardrun with 10:28 left in the first quarter and then added the extrapoint, giving the Cougars a 7-0 lead. The touchdown was set up by a46-yard pass from Daniel Lofton to Jeremy James on the first playfrom scrimmage for the Cougars.
Prentiss Christian answered with an 82-yard drive that chewed upnearly seven minutes off the clock before Saint quarterback GarrettJackson found Hunter McPhail for a 7-yard touchdown pass. LyleBerard added the extra point, tying the game at 7-7 with 3:31 leftin the opening quarter.
The Saints’ defense looked as though they had gained themomentum for their team after holding the Cougars to a three andout on the ensuing drive, but a muffed punt by Matthew Speightsgave Brookhaven new life at midfield. The Cougar offense respondedas Kolby Byrd scored on a 6-yard run with 1:44 left. Dickersonadded his second extra point of the night and the Cougars took a14-7 lead.
Prentiss again responded with a long, time-consuming drive tostart the second quarter. The Saints were set up with a first andgoal from the Cougars five yard line, but the Brookhaven defensestiffened and kept the Saints off the scoreboard.
