David Glen Robinson, 57, of Murfreesboro,Tenn., passed away Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011. David was born inBirmingham, Ala., the eldest son of Dr. Glen E. Robinson and thelate Dorothy Dollar Robinson.

    He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Cynthia Thames Robinson,and their daughter, Laura Corinne Robinson, both ofMurfreesboro.

    He leaves behind his father, Dr. Glen E. Robinson, of High Point,N.C.; his parents-in-law, William W. and Lucille Price Thames, ofBrookhaven; his brother, Patrick G. Robinson and wife, Wendy, ofBlacksburg, Va.; his sister, Susan Alexander and husband, David, ofHigh Point, N.C.; his brother-in-law, William W. Thames III andwife, Sandra, of Ocean Springs; and his three nieces, KimberlyThames, of Milan, Italy, Jessica Thames, of Ocean Springs, andKristina Alexander, of High Point, N.C.

    David considered Robert and Emily Yent of Bainbridge, Ga. part ofhis family; along with Linda Bergeron, of Yorktown, Va., the lateColonel Scott Bergeron and their sons, Sean Bergeron and wife,Sarah, of Norfolk, Va., and Stuart Bergeron and wife, Melissa, ofArlington, Va.

    A graduate of the University of Mississippi and the University ofAlabama, David was the Systems Department Head at Walker Library,Middle Tennessee State University. His contributions to MTSUthroughout his tenure of 25 years were significant. He valued anddepended on his close associate, Michael Wheaton, and all hiscolleagues in the MTSU community.

    David was proud to be an adult volunteer for the Girl Scouts of theUnited States of America for over 20 years. He was awarded theAppreciation Pin for his outstanding efforts and support of GirlScouting. His belief in the mission of Girl Scouting enhanced thelives of many girls and young women and their families in MiddleTennessee.

    The Robinson family’s involvement with Girl Scouting has yieldedmany special relationships for David, Cindy and Laura. Belinda andLee Qualls and their daughters, Morgane and Christa; Linda and AlanHall and their children, Jeremy and Kristin; Cindy and Sam Ingramand their daughters, Allison and Emily; Gwen and Phillip Booth andtheir children Amanda and Phillip Michael; and Nancy and RobertWoolfolk and their daughters, Megan and Shannon, were, and are, allcherished friends. Their friendship with Debbie Utterback and thelate Dale Utterback and their children, Emily and Matthew was aunique one. Emily is Laura’s dearest friend and David proudlyclaimed her as his “other daughter.”

    David will be greatly missed by a host of other friends and hislarge extended family.

    David grew up in the United Methodist Church and later joined theSouthern Baptist Church. A professed believer, David considered hiswife’s family church, Union Hall Baptist Church in Brookhaven, ashis church home, although his membership currently resided at FirstBaptist Church, Murfreesboro, Tenn.

    David’s wife, Cindy and daughter, Laura, will be receiving familyand friends on Thursday, Nov. 3, from 5 until 8 p.m. at WoodfinMemorial Chapel, Murfreesboro, Tenn. Visitation at BrookhavenFuneral Home will be held on Saturday, Nov. 5, from 9:30 until11:30 a.m., followed by a 1:30 p.m. graveside service at Union HallBaptist Church Cemetery. The service will be conducted by The Rev.Dennis Dunn, who baptized David into the Baptist church, andofficiated at David and Cindy’s wedding.

    Pallbearers will be Patrick Robinson, Bill Thames, David Winfrey,Mike Brady, Jack Smith, Patrick Beeson, Matthew Beeson, Robert Yentand Sean Bergeron.

    In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in David’s memory to theUnion Hall Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, the Girl Scouts of MiddleTennessee and the Gideons International.
