Loyd Star girls edge BC in eight

Bogue Chitto and host Loyd Star renewed their Lincoln Countysoftball rivalry Tuesday night. Before an estimated crowd of 200,the Lady Hornets made the most of Senior Night; claiming a 7-6fastpitch thriller in 8 innings.
In pregame ceremonies, Loyd Star honored seniors Annie Smith,Lindsay Duckworth, Lauri Britt, Myranda Watts and Ariel Hunsucker.Each player was showered with several gifts from coaches, parents,players and supporters.
Both teams enter playoff action beginning Saturday. Loyd Star,the Division 6-2A runner-up, travels to either St. Andrew’s orUnion. Bogue Chitto, the Division 8-1A champion, will host eitherSt. Aloysius or Stringer.

In one of the better games of the season, each ballclub decidedthat they did not want this one to end. Several outstanding playson both sides of the ball were enthusiastically approved by thefans in attendance throughout the game.
In the eighth, both teams would start the extra session tied at6-all; with the last out of the seventh on second base.
Bogue Chitto (15-6) had Darcy Miller on second. Mikki Mitchell’ssacrifice bunt moved Miller to third. Two batters later, JessieMiller walked. Toy Smith grounded out to the pitcher to end the tophalf of the inning.
Loyd Star (14-12) countered with Carrie Moak at second. With 1out, Myranda Watts grounded out to first, putting Moak at third.Brittany Beeson walked. Brooke Delaughter reached first on afielding error that allowed Moak to score; thus erupting a jubilantcelebration from the Lady Hornet.
“Can you believe that!” said an exhausted Lady Hornet head coachJan Delaughter following the game. “What good ballgame by bothteams tonight. Both teams played well.”
“We have to learn to play under pressure.”
Delaughter’s crew banged out 10 hits, led by a pair of singleseach from Calleye Douglas, Moak and Watts.
Even though they were disappointed by the loss, Bobcat headcoach Scott Leggett was proud of each team’s effort.
“I am proud of you tonight, because you did not give up,” saidCoach Leggett addressing his squad following the game. You weredown, but you battled back. You gave a good effort tonight.”
The Lady ‘Cats had only 5 hits in the game. Caitlin Owendoubled. Shaquille Burton, Josie Porter, Kelli Howard and DarcyMiller collected a base hit apiece.
In a game that seesawed, Loyd Star scored in the first for anearly 1-0 lead. With 1 out, Delaughter was hit by a pitch. Douglassingled. Annie Smith’s base hit would plate Delaughter.
Bogue Chitto claimed their first lead of the game in the third.With 2 outs, Burton walked. Porter singled. Howard’s base hit wouldscore Burton. Porter would later score on a passed ball.
Delaughter authored the win with 4 walks and 11 strikeouts.Howard took the loss, fanning 4 Loyd Star batters and walking4.
