Barbour speech impresses delegates

American Legion Boys State delegates were impressed Tuesday withGov. Haley Barbour’s speech at the 64th annual conference atCopiah-Lincoln Community College.
Aaron Cagle, of Wesson, said the conference and Barbour’s speechwere helpful in learning about the political process.
“I’ve learned the characteristics that a good leader shouldpossess,” Cagle said.
Cagle also commended Barbour’s return to Mississippi afterleaving his lobbying practice in Washington.
“I think it is neat for Gov. Barbour to come home to Mississippifrom Washington to pursue the governorship instead of staying inWashington and running for a bigger and better-paying position,”Cagle said.
Jarrod Bates, of Philadelphia, said he was impressed byBarbour’s quick responses to the questions delegates raised afterhis speech and thought he answered them “as truthful as anypolitician can without getting into jeopardy.”
“The governor provided captivating information on leadershipvalues to live my life by,” Bates said.
Tremayne Williams, of Pascagoula, said Barbour’s speech showedhim that the political leaders in Mississippi are dedicated toserving the public.
“Not all politicians are ruthless. Many are commendableleaders,” Williams said. “I’ve learned about the dedication andhard work involved with being a public servant here inMississippi.”
