Driver jailed after fleeing from deputy

A Brookhaven man who fled from a sheriff’s deputy Thursday nightand ended up crashing his vehicle into a tree is now facing sixcharges.
Danny C. Autrey, 52, of 1548 Autrey Lane, Brookhaven, facescharges of driving under the influence, second refusal; resistingarrest, careless driving, running a stop sign, failure to yield toblue lights and possession of marijuana with intent todistribute.
Autrey, in a red Chevrolet pickup, and another man, in a bluepickup, were “showing out” on Highway 184 near the high school whenOfficer Matt Springfield came upon them, according to Sheriff LynnBoyte.
When Springfield arrived he saw Autrey’s vehicle spin out, do a180 degree turn and strike a curb, Boyte said. When the deputyturned on his blue lights, both vehicles fled in differentdirections, and he was forced to make a choice.
Springfield pursued Autrey east on Nola Road until Autrey lostcontrol and left the road at 1397 Nola Road, striking an embankmentand a tree.
“The driver was injured in the accident, and they had to removethe glass to get him out,” Boyte said.
Autrey was transported to King’s Daughters Medical Center, butreleased shortly afterward and is presently in the Lincoln CountyJail.
After Autrey was removed from the vehicle, a cursory searchfound a felony amount of marijuana packaged for resale in thetruck. Boyte said he was not sure of the exact amount.
