Bobcats whip Wildcats

BOGUE CHITTO – It was not what everyone was expecting, when theyarrived at Troy Smith Stadium, on Thursday. Most in attendance werelooking for a blowout, but got a close shave.
The Bogue Chitto Bobcats brought home a hard-fought 32-7 Region4-1A win over the Salem Wildcats. Bobcat runningbacks DenardFerguson and Dominique Addison led the charge by each topping the100-yard mark.
Bogue Chitto travels to Smith County to take on the Mt. OlivePirates in a Region 4-1A contest. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
Bogue Chitto (7-1, 5-1) held on for the win, despite penaltiesand turnovers halting several drives. Bobcat head coach Carl Colewas pleased with the win.
“This was a pretty good win for us,” said Cole following thegame. “We just have to take each game one at a time.”
Ferguson, a 5-foot-10 164-pound senior, hit paydirt the first 2times that he carried the ball. His scores from 47 and 43 yardsout, along with an Ernie Johnston PAT kick, gave Bogue Chitto a13-0 lead with 6:31 left in the opening period. Ferguson heldgame-high honors with 160 yards on 14 carries.
Addison would get into the scoring act at the 3:46 mark of thefirst, from 20 yards away. The conversion pass failed and theBobcats. entertained a 19-0 lead at the intermission.
Addison totaled 124 yards on 10 rushes.
“We got a lot of things done tonight,” added Cole. “But we havegot to cut down on our penalties and turnovers.”
Penalties and turnovers were about the only thing that wouldstop the Bobcat express on this night. Bogue Chitto amassed 91yards in penalties, along with an interception and a fumble.
Addison and Ferguson would find the goal line once more on thenight. Addison scored from 32 yards out with 8:35 in the third.Ferguson jaunt was 9 yards and with Lindsey Jackson’s PAT kick, theBobcats held a 32-0 lead entering the final stanza.
Salem (2-5, 2-4), coached by Kenneth Murphy, got on thescoreboard with 10:50 left in the game. Senior Jason Holmes caughta 35-yard touchdown from sophomore quarterback Jordan Hill. JoshHolmes’ PAT kick was successful and the Wildcats deficit wasreduced to 32-7.
Defensively, John Wallace led the Bogue Chittodefensive assault with 19 tackles. Todd Davis followed with 10.Barrett Wallace recorded 3 quarterback sacks. C. Wallace, AnthonyStevenson and Casey McCaffrey recorded individual sacks. CodyWallace and Michael Blackwell picked off Wildcat passes.
The Bobcat defense held Salem to only 78 yards of total offense,issued 6 sacks, picked off 2 Wildcat passes and recovered 3fumbles.
“Our defense did a good job tonight,” added Cole.
