One Lincoln County Jail inmate remained at large this morningafter he and another inmate escaped during a GED class Mondayevening, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department officials said.

Inmates Robert Maxwell and Willie Young were among inmatesparticipating in the high school equivalency class, typically heldin the lobby of the jail. They escaped through the front door ofthe lobby.

“The door is usually locked but last night one of the jailerstook it upon themselves not to check it,” said Lincoln CountySheriff Wiley Calcote.

Maxwell, 19, is a resident of Brookhaven, address unavailable,was apprehended directly outside of the building.

Young remains at large.

Young is a 26-year-old black male who lived at 146 Cedar St. atthe time of his arrest. He is 5’8″, 168 lbs. and was unarmed at thetime of his escape, Calcote said.

Calcote said the sheriff’s department is actively searching forYoung.

“We stayed out all night looking for him and we’re stilllooking,” Calcote said. “We have some ideas on where he may be andwe are in the process of checking out these leads.”

Surrounding counties have been notified and roadblocks have beenset up throughout Lincoln County, Calcote said.

Young was arrested May 19 by the Mississippi Bureau of Narcoticsand the Brookhaven Police Department and charged with aggravatedassault.

Young was arrested after he allegedly sold narcotics to anundercover narcotics agent and led police on a foot chase. He isalleged to have assaulted a Brookhaven police officer before he wasarrested.
