Dear Editor,
As part of a group of physicians, nurses, and support personnelwho journeyed from Indiana to help care for the evacuees fromhurricane Katrina, I wish to take this opportunity to thank all ofthose citizens of Brookhaven who made our recent stay in your cityso worthwhile. The reception we received, from a group of peoplealready strained by receiving the evacuees themselves, farsurpassed anything that we expected.
Of particular note were the efforts of Philip Grady of King’sDaughters Medical Center, whose assistance with transportation, communication and coordination of services was invaluable. Yourcommunity is fortunate to have a man of this caliber working foryou. Also, were the countless folks at the shelter at FaithPresbyterian Church. They daily, and profoundly, brought to lifethe ideal of Southern hospitality. Our sincere thanks to all ofyou.
Regrettably, natural disasters will always be part of life. However, it is a comfort to know that there are still those peoplewho will open their hearts to provide whatever care and assistancethey can. From all of us, we want it known that we are proud tohave met you.
