Bears, Lady ‘Cats claim first place in Lincoln County

BOGUE CHITTO — The West Lincoln Bears made a successful titledefense. Saturday night, beating Enterprise 62-26 in the finalround of the Lincoln County Round-Robin Tournament. The Bears wentundefeated in 3 straight tournament games.
In girls action, Bogue Chitto surprised Loyd Star 55-43 in R.L.”Bob” Calhoun Gymnasium. The win secured the first place trophy forBC’s Lady ‘Cats.
In the other girls came, West Lincoln beat Enterprise 33-22. Inthe other boys game Bogue Chitto ambushed Loyd Star 69-65.
The Bears (6-6) were powered by Bradleigh Ricewith 11 points and 11 rebounds. Jeremy Byrd, Jeremie Richardson andAaron Collins netted 10 points apiece. Jeremy Byrd pulled downseven rebounds. Aaron Shaw made six steals and had 10 assists.
“I thought we played consistent for three days,” said WestLincoln coach Lane Young. “Our defense was good in all three gamesand that was the difference.”
Young said his two seniors, Aaron Shaw and Bradleigh Rice hadworked hard to improve their skills. “Our seniors really deservethis championship.”
West Lincoln hosts Vicksburg St. Aloysius Tuesday night forDivision 7-1A action. The girls game tips off at 7 p.m. LeadingEnterprise with six points each were Jamie Smith and TannerDelcambre.
The Bogue Chitto girls (8-2) beat previouslyundefeated Loyd Star (9-1) by 12 points for the girls championship.The victory avenged 2 previous losses to Loyd Star.
“Tonight, we played the best game we have played,” said BogueChitto girls coach Christi Terrell. “We gave a full team efforttonight. Loyd Star is a very good team. We wish them much luck inthe basketball season.”
The Lady ‘Cats built on an 11-8 first-quarter lead to 26-19 atthe half. A 15-8 scoring run in the third quarter put Bogue Chittoleading 41-27 going in to the final frame.
Shasta Porter powered the Lady ‘Cats with 16 points. Netting 13points was LaToya Braxton. Candace Avants scored 10 points.Kimberlee Thomas scored nine points, grabbed nine rebounds and hadsix assists.
The Lady Hornets, coached by Jan Delaughter, got a game-high 23points from center Haley Sones before she fouled out late in thefourth quarter. She picked up two fouls in the first quarter andsat out the first half. She had 4 rebounds.
“Bogue Chitto shot the ball great and deserved to win,” saidDelaughter. Loyd Star only attempted 5 free throws and made 3compared to Bogue Chitto’s 11 of 20.
Following with six points each were Brittany Brown, ShannonChester and Dakota Brooks. Chester had 6 rebounds, 7 steals and 3assists. Brooks had 4 rebounds and 3 steals.
Loyd Star shot a cold 31 percent from the field. Loyd Star hostsHinds AHS Tuesday for Division 6-2A action.
The Bobcats (5-3) got a game-high 29 points and14 rebounds from Keyounna Perkins in the win over Loyd Star.Antwoin Lyons fired in 12 points and had eight assists. JustinGaines followed with 11 points. Finishing with 10 points and 13rebounds was Mario Addison.
Loyd Star (7-3) got 15 points from McKinley Hamilton. Pumping in13 points was Matthew Henderson. Ashton Fox followed with 12points.
West Lincoln 33, Enterprise 22
In the girls game, Julie Case led the Lady Bears (3-9) with 12points. Titianna Marshall and Casey Smith collected seven pointsapiece. Smith led off the backboards with 11 rebounds followed byHannah Knouse with nine.
Lacey Orr powered the Lady Jackets with 12 points.
