Ole Brook soccer team splits with Mendenhall

The Brookhaven Lady Panthers shut out Mendenhall 5-0 but thePanthers lost 2-1 Friday night to the Tigers in the season finalefor both BHS soccer teams.
The Lady Panthers (8-9-2, 6-4) were powered byLydia Warren and Terri Hodges with 2 goals apiece. Charlotte Smithscored the other goal on King Field.
Ole Brook led Mendenhall 3-0 at halftime. Smith scored the firstgoal on a breakaway, with Hodges providing an assist. Hodges scored21 minutes into the match and Warren scored her first goal justbefore halftime.
In the second half, Hodges scored on a header off a corner kickfrom Warren. Laney Wall provided an assist on Warren’s finalgoal.
Goal keeper Jordan Beeson posted the shutout, making 4saves.
It was the final match for eight seniors. They included AnnHouston Cupit, Allison Dann, Ashley Holtslander, Misha Moore,CaryAnne Rake, Ashlee Richardson, Mae King and Katy Young.
Florence’s girls won the division title and Terry wasrunner-up.
The Panthers (6-14, 4-6) avoided a shutout whenChase Covington scored with 5 minutes left to play. R.J. Jenkinsprovided a scoring assist.
“It was a tough, physical game,” said BHS coach Kevin Bower. “Itwas a very physical match.”
Goalie Wesley McSorley made 4 saves for Brookhaven.
Bower said division champion Florence and runner-up Terry wouldparticipate in the Class 4A state playoffs.
It was the final match for seven BHS senior starters: J.W.Cowart, Jonathan Davey, Nate Lias, Jake Patrick, Will Thibodeaux,Jenkins and Covington
