Brookhaven Academy’s girls and boys moved into the championshipfinals of their Holiday Classic by shooting out the lights in JohnR. Gray Gymnasium Wednesday night. The Cougars blasted CentralPrivate (La.) 75-60 as guard Cole Hodges sacked 23 points and guardJeremy Winborne 22. The Lady Cougars crushed Simpson Academy 82-54in the semifinals, directed by center Kristian Davidson’s 27points.

The BA girls play Delta Academy tonight at 6:45 in thechampionship game while the Cougars meet Hillcrest Christian at 8in the boys title test. Delta’s girls edged Presbyterian ChristianSchool 54-52 and Hillcrest clipped Delta’s boys 58-54 to reach thefinals.

In a consolation girls game yesterday, Hillcrest beat Oak Forest45-25. Consolation girls games today send Copiah against CentralPrivate at 3 and Simpson against PCS at 4:15. The 5:30 consolationboys game has Delta playing Central Private.

The BA Cougars (13-1), coached by Dale Watts,got 11 points each from Seth Davis and T-Boy Lynch. Davis also had12 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 assists. Hodges had 10 rebounds and 4assists. Winborne added 8 rebounds and 3 seals. Alan Gray had 6rebounds and 4 steals.

“I thought we came out and played well at times,” said Watts.”At times we showed complacency and they (CP) attacked us. We wereable to regroup and win at the end.”

Watts watched his team roar to a 31-15 first-quarter lead. TheCougars were up 43-35 at halftime.

“Brookhaven Academy came out with more intensity and played alot smarter than we did,” said Central Private coach Jason Norris.”I was pleased with the way my guys fought back and neverquit.”

The Rebels (11-4) were led by Chase Richard and Ryan Myers with15 and 13 points respectively.

The BA Lady Cougars (15-1) screamed to a 44-29halftime lead over Simpson. Emily Langley followed Davison with 16points. Mallory Logan and Kelli Byrd both had 15 points.

On the backboards, Davidson led the way with 9 rebounds. Byrdhad 6 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 assists. Logan dished out 9assists.

“I was pleased with our post play,” said BA girls coach BarryGray. “We lost our concentration in the middle of the game and weneed to work on that.

“Delta is one of the top five teams in the state and they arewell-coached,” Gray noted. “It should be a good game for us.”

Simpson was directed by Jamie Hilton’s 16 points.

Delta 54, PCS 52

Megan Green tossed in 23 pints and Graham Carson 17 as Deltaeluded Presbyterian Christian. Leading PCS were Lori Bernardo with23 points and Anna Patterson with 18.

Hillcrest 58, Delta 54

Seventeen points by Kyle Couther, 15 by Len Toplin and 14 byBrent Edwards led Hillcrest over the Delta boys in the semifinals.Delta was powered by Ty Singuefield’s 23 points. David McNuttnetted 14 points and Lee Thompson 11.

Hillcrest 45, Oak Forest 25

In a girls consolation game, Hillcrest was led by MeredithGuider with 16 points, Mandy Newell with 11 and Catherine Barberwith 9. Oak Forest was led by Chelsea Woods with 10 points.
