Hartfield Academy’s Zach Claycomb hit a 2-run double in the top of the seventh inning to secure a 7-5 Saturday comeback win for the Hawks in Game 2 of a best-of-three series against the West Lincoln Bears. Hartfield had beaten the Bears 10-7 Thursday night at Smith-Wills Stadium in Jackson.
“Give Hartfield credit,” said West Lincoln coach Steve Barrington. “They made the routine plays and got the big hits when they needed them. Those three errors killed the momentum we had.”
Hartfield (12-13) advances to the next round of the playoffs.
Winning pitcher Gates Nigreville (1K, 5BB) went the distance for the Hawks. He gave up 5 runs on 5 hits.
Brady Wilson (4K, 2BB) was charged with loss. He gave up 7 runs, 5 of them earned. He allowed 8 hits.
The Bears (8-14) left 5 runners in scoring position.
In the seventh, Hartfield got a 2-run double from Claycomb to seal the win. Claycomb collected 2 doubles and a single.
The Bears got a double from Chase Buckles. Collecting singles were Jared Case, Bryce Temple, Jeremy Burns and Wilson.
