WESSON — Co-Lin has accepted an invitation to play in theGolden Isles Bowl in Brunswick, Ga., on Saturday, Dec. 2. TheWolfpack will face Georgia Military College at 1 p.m.

Co-Lin (8-3) lost a last-minute, 21-20 heart-breaker to PearlRiver Community College Saturday night in the MACJC StateChampionship game at Stone Stadium. GMC completed its season withan 8-2 record and is ranked No. 8 in the latest NJCAA FootballPoll. Co-Lin is ranked No. 9.

“It’s a fitting reward for our kids,” said Davis. “Our kids haveworked hard to get in this position. It’s a chance to finish in theTop Ten in the nation.

“It will help our team to be ranked in next year’s preseasonpoll,” he added. “This is an indication of how far our team hascome in three years.”

In the previous two years, the Wolfpack finished 1-8 and1-6.

Davis said Georgia Military has a strong program. “They will bea good measuring stick for us,” said Davis.

GMC won the national championship in 2001.

“I think our kids are excited about going to a bowl game,” saidDavis. “This is something new for them.

“We are going to be representing the state of Mississippi andour conference,” he noted. “We are looking for some braggingrights.”

Davis his his team would have the rest of the week off toconcentrate on academics and heal some injuries. They’ll resumepractice Monday and Tuesday before taking a few days off forThanksgiving.

“I want our kids to enjoy this bowl experience but I want us towin, too,” said Davis.

Practice will resume the Sunday after Thanksgiving. Davis saidthe team would leave Wednesday, Nov. 29 for Georgia. There will bea welcoming luncheon Nov. 30 in Brunswick.

Davis said bowl tickets would be sold in advance on the Co-Lincampus. The price of tickets is $10.

Pearl River In Title Test

With a 21-14 overtime win over No. 17 Kilgore (Texas) CollegeSaturday, Blinn College won its first Southwest Junior CollegeFootball Conference title since 1996 and finished the season withan unblemished 11-0 record. The Buccaneers sit atop the NJCAAFootball Poll for the third consecutive week as they received allseven first place votes and 105 total points.

Blinn will face No. 2-ranked Pearl River which edged Co-Lin andclaimed a fourth straight state title. The Wildcats remain at No. 2in the poll while finishing the season with a 10-1 record. Theyreceived 98 total votes this week.

Blinn will face Pearl River in the Pilgrims Pride Bowl Classicon Saturday, Dec. 9 in Mt. Pleasant, Texas. The game will bebroadcast by FOX Sports Southwest.
