Two want to serve as Wesson mayor

WESSON — Residents here are anxiously awaiting the chance tocast their ballots for those they want to oversee the town duringthe next four years.
In the town’s top position, neighbors Bill Tigner and Alton Shawwill go up against each other for mayor.
Current mayor David McGee had initially qualified to run againbut dropped out of the race at the end of April.
In the alderman at large race, incumbent David Douglas has beenjoined by long-time Wesson resident Nancy Ables.
Alderman Robert Derrick is unopposed for the Ward Oneposition.
In Ward Two, Marvin Weeks and John Welter Jr., a formeralderman, will vie for the position that has been occupied by JimLightsey for approximately 20 years. Lightsey decided to retirefrom the post earlier this year.
Ward Three Alderman Lura Greer will round out the secondunopposed race for the position she has held since 1992.
Four candidates qualified for the alderman post in Ward Four.They include Incumbent Hollis Cowen Jr., Rhema Bradford, MarkDouglas and former alderman R.G. Dube.
Tuesday will be the first opportunity for Wesson voters to showtheir opinions at the polls since the town does not hold primaryelections. Each candidate runs as an independent.
