King shuts down Florence

FLORENCE — Paxton King put the chill on the Florence EaglesTuesday night in a Division 6-4A showdown. King (2-1), a sophomoresouthpaw, pitched a 2-hitter, directing the Panthers to a 7-1victory. He struck out 9 batters and walked 4.
Brookhaven hosts Florence for a doubleheader Friday, starting at4:30 on Moyer Field. With the win, Coach Randy Spring’s Panthersimproved their record to 9-2 overall and 5-2 in the divisionrace.
At the plate, Ole Brook finished with 9 hits. Doubles by JoshCoone, Zach Watson and Cody Ratcliff directed the attack. Ratcliff,pinch-hitting in the seventh, delivered a 2-RBI double which scoredCole Newell and Coone.
Watson led off the game with a double and finished with a3-for-4 performance. Grounders by Elliot Warren and Garion Crockettpushed him home for a 1-0 lead.
Florence scored an unearned run in the second after King gave uphis only extra-base hit, a double to right field.
In the second, Ole Brook’s Marlon Dixon reached first base whenthe catcher dropped a 2-out, third strike. Watson followed with asingle and Dixon scored on the catcher’s throwing error, making it2-1.
The Panthers plated 2 more runs in the fourth. Hinton singledand came around to score on a wild pitch. Warren walked andeventually scored on another wild pitch, giving Ole Brook a 4-1lead.
In the sixth, Dixon led off with a walk and stole second. Watsonsingled and Dixon scored on Warren’s ground-out, pushing thePanthers ahead 5-1.
