Monticello man dies in wreck

A 37-year-old Monticello man was killed in an early Fridaymorning accident on Highway 27 near Tylertown, said Rod Crawford,area public affairs officer for the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

Mike W. Buchanan died after his 2001 Peterbilt truck, loadedwith wood chips, ran off the road in a curve and overturned,Crawford said. The accident happened around 3:45 a.m. Friday abouta mile and a half north of Tylertown.

Buchanan, who worked for McDaniel Hauling of Hazlehurst, washeaded to Bogolusa, La., Crawford said.

Buchanan was pronounced dead at the scene. Funeral informationon Buchanan’s services was unavailable at press time.

In another accident, the Brookhaven Fire Department’s Jaws ofLife were needed to free a Natchez woman following a one-vehiclemishap on Highway 84 about five miles west of the city.

BFD Capt. James Dykes said a red Volkswagen, driven by StacyStrong of Natchez, went off the road and rolled over. The accidenthappened around 8:30 a.m. and firefighters were on the scene until9:20 a.m.

Dykes said Strong was taken to King’s Daughters Medical Center.He indicated were injuries were minor.

“She was awake and talking,” Dykes said. “It didn’t look likeanything serious.”
