LEARNED -The Cougar defense scored the first two touchdowns inthe opening minutes of Brookhaven Academy’s matchup with the RebulAcademy Raiders. The Cougar offense took over and added four moretouchdowns as they handed Rebul a 39-6 beating Friday night.

Undefeated Brookhaven Academy (5-0) scored on the first playfrom scrimmage by Rebul at the start of the game. Brookhaven’sJeffrey Waycaster intercepted a Lupe Guevara pass and returned it26 yards for a Cougar touchdown. Adam Smith kicked 2 out of 3 PATsas Brookhaven went up 7-0 over Rebel.

On the Raiders’ next offensive play, Cougar linebacker PaulCoker picked up a Rebul fumble and raced 59 yards for paydirt and a13-0 lead.

In the second quarter, the Cougar offense went to work andtacked on two more TDs to push their lead to 25-0 at the half.Senior quarterback Ben Davis connected to Chad Lagrone for an18-yard score and followed it with a 45-yard pass to Coker for thesecond touchdown.

Will Rushing scored on a two-yard burst for the Cougars in thethird quarter to increase Brookhaven’s advantage to 32-0. Rushingintercepted Guevara and retuned it 78 yards to set up the two-yardTD plunge.

Rebul scored its only TD of the night in the third quarter on aone-yard carry by Guevara. The try for two points failed and theRaiders trailed 32-6.

In the fourth quarter, Davis scored the final Cougar touchdownof the night on a 57-yard run to increase the lead to 39-6.

Top rusher for Brookhaven was Davis with eight carries for 88yards. Smith picked up 50 yards on eight carries. Ryan Nix ran fivetimes for 34 yards.

Davis also completed 2 of 3 passes for 63 yards. Coker caughtone pass for 55 yards and Lagrone made one catch for 18 yards.

On defense, senior linebacker Blake Killingsworth ledwith 11 tackles. Eric Terry had 10 tackles. Jonathan Watts followedwith seven stops.

Brookhaven Academy travels to Central Private in Baker,La., for a non-district game Friday night. Game time is 7:30p.m.
