Zone change sought for living facility

In coming weeks, the city planning commission will look intowhether or not a parcel of land not far from Brookway Boulevard canbe rezoned to allow for an assisted living facility, officialssaid.

A public notice said the rezoning request was filed by CameronSmith and Stoneybrook Management. The public notice states that theintent of the change is to be able to put in an assisted livingfacility.

City Public Works Director Steve Moreton said the land is onWest Congress Street between Highway 51 and Brookhaven Street, nearthe post office.

“It’s zoned commercial and to have an assisted living facility,it has to be an R3 zone,” Moreton said.

Smith said he is in the process of selling the property. Hedeclined to discuss any information about the buyer or theirintent.

“But the property owner has to get it rezoned, not the propertybuyer,” Smith said.

Smith said simply that his name is on the public notice becausehe still currently owns the property.

“I’m selling it to someone who requires rezoning,” he said.
