Vet’s parade changes day

Organizers are busily preparing for the fourth annual Veteran’sParade in downtown Brookhaven Memorial Day.

The parade, traditionally held the Saturday before Memorial Day,will be held on the Monday holiday this year, said Paul Jackson, anorganizer.

The parade is designed to honor veterans for their service andsacrifice. Previous events have drawn more than 300 veterans toride in vintage military vehicles during the parade.

This year’s event should prove to be special, Jackson said.Special tributes will be made to the soldiers of the MississippiArmy National Guard’s 155th Brigade Combat Team, which includedmany units scattered throughout Southwest Mississippi, and the296th Army Reserve Transportation Company, based here.

The parade will travel along its usual route, with a pause atthe Veteran Memorial on the steps of the Lincoln County GovernmentComplex for a brief ceremony.

The parade will start at the historic train depot at 10 a.m.with vehicle line up beginning at 8:30 a.m.
