BA slugs Bowling Green

Undefeated Brookhaven Academy continued to flex its basketballmuscles in the District 4-AA race Tuesday night in John R. GrayGymnasium as Bowling Green Academy suffered the setbacks. The LadyCougars crushed Bowling Green 59-32, led by post players AnnaGatlin and Jessie Altman with 13 and 12 points respectively.
In the varsity boys game, the Cougars whipped the Buccaneers70-46, led by senior guard Craig Smith’s 22 points.
Brookhaven Academy resumes play Thursday night at JacksonAcademy.
The Lady Cougars (28-0, 10-0), coached by BarryGray, rolled to a 35-14 halftime lead. They got 5 rebounds and 2assists from Mallory Logan. Altman and Allison Pickett each had 3rebounds. Angie Davis had 3 steals and Gatlin 2. Lauren Smith andKelli Byrd each had 2 assists.
“Brookhaven Academy is talented in all areas,” said BowlingGreen coach Pat King. “They have good ball movement.
“My team is young and they’re learning,” King added. “They gavea good effort.”
Bowling Green (1-18, 0-10) got 11 points and 8 rebounds fromVictoria Seal. Brook Vickers had 8 points and 7 rebounds.
The Cougars (20-0, 10-0) roared to a 39-26halftime lead over the Bucs. Smith, who made 6 assists, gotoffensive support from Alan Oster with 12 points and JonathanWinborne with 11. Oster also grabbed 6 rebounds.
Jimmy Latham and Layne Moreton each supplied the Cougars with 4assists.
Bowling Green (6-12, 4-6) got a game-high 30 points from 6-5center Cody Wise, including 20 first-half points. He also had 12rebounds and 4 steals. Matt Sessions added 11 points.
“Bowling Green did a good job,” said BA boys coach Dale Watts.”Number 33 (Ryan Hunt) and No. 3 (Wise) gave us some trouble butour depth wore them down.”
Eight Cougars put points on the scoreboard.
“Brookhaven Academy’s bench hurt us,” said Coach King. “Our postpeople played well but Brookhaven’s guards hurt my guards.”
Junior High Results
The Lady Cougars (23-3, 11-0) whipped Bowing Green 34-9 in thejunior high girls game, led by Jessica Diamond’s 9 points. EmilyLangley added 8 points and 7 rebounds. Alex Grant had 5 points andHolly Case 4.
Bowling Green got 5 points from Mindy Posey.
In the boys game, Brookhaven blasted Bowling Green 64-43 asBobby McGuffie scored 12 points and Alan Gray 11. Jeremy Winbornechipped in 9 points.
Bowling Green was led by Robbie Crain with 17 points and TrevorThomas with 13.
