GRENADA — Family and a genuine sales pitch from Kirk Academy incoming Headmaster Dr. Randy Poss were enough to lure former Copiah-Lincoln Community College Men’s basketball coach Dennis Sims out of retirement.
Sims takes over the boys’ basketball program along with the Athletic Director position at Kirk from Spencer Segrest, who resigned recently. He brings 40 years of experience as a basketball coach at the high school and junior college level.
“We feel very fortunate to have a coach of his caliber joining our coaching and administrative team at Kirk Academy,” Poss said. “It is gratifying that someone with his expertise really wants to be a part of what is happening at Kirk.”
The new Kirk coach comes to Grenada after 29 years of coaching in the Mississippi Junior College ranks. Prior to the last 17 years at Co-Lin, Sims served as women’s and men’s coach at Southwest Community College at Summit.
Sims, 62, was 254-194 at Co-Lin, winning a state tournament championship in 1999. He has 40 years of coaching experience.
