Building projects at the county schools are closer to startingas Lincoln County School District officials received positive newsabout funding.

“We have received word from Jackson (state education officials)that the funds for our building program we applied for have beenapproved,” Superintendent Perry Miller told school board membersMonday during their meeting.

The Mississippi Public School Building Fund will not cover theentire costs of the projects, which include a new library at WestLincoln, the removal of the old Bogue Chitto School building, bleachers at Enterprise and a sewage system at Loyd Star, but thefunds will envelop a “significant” amount of the costs, Millersaid.

Architects are now preparing documents to bid the projects afterthe first of the year, Miller added.

Other items work addressed during the meeting included the needfor a dishwasher in the Bogue Chitto cafeteria.

“Their dishwasher is inadequate,” Miller said. “We’re going tojust about have to replace all of the plumbing, (too).”

Board members approved the expenses of the plumbing renovationproject.

They also discussed whether or not a lawyer should be hired torepresent the district in a small judicial matter involving theawarding of a Sixteen Section land lease.

“I’m under the opinion that the liability is not great enough tohire a lawyer,” Miller told the board, explaining how it would costthe district a minimum of $2,500, which is less than the amountbeing sought by the plaintiff.

The board agreed with Miller and decided to let him handle thematter when necessary.

The next scheduled board meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m., Dec.17, at the central office on Monticello Street.
