Services for Nathan Carter Sr., of Brookhaven, will be held at11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 29, at Ebenezer A.M.E. Church with burialin the church cemetery. R.E. Tyler Funeral Home is in charge ofarrangements.
Visitation is Thursday from noon until 7 p.m. at the funeralhome, with family present from 6 until 7 p.m..
Mr. Carter, 86, died Dec. 23, 2007, at Haven Hall Health CareCenter. He was born in Brookhaven on Nov. 26, 1921, to MatthewCarter and Anna Griffin.
He attended Progress School in Lincoln County. He served as atransportation specialist in the United States Army during WorldWar II. He worked at Bendix Mobile Homes, and later, as a gardenerfor M.C. Urban. He was a member of Ebenezer A.M.E. Church, where heserved as a steward and choir member.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his son, DerrickCarter; and his brothers, Leon Newton, Sylvania Newton, EddieNewton and Felix Carter.
Survivors are his wife, Mary Helen Dickey Carter, of Brookhaven;his sons, Roy Carter, of Hazlehurst, Nathan Carter Jr., ofHattiesburg, Jason Carter, of Brookhaven, and Kenneth Carter, ofBirmingham, Ala.; his daughters, Dorothy Smith, of Joliet, Ill.,Ebonie Hackett, of Crystal Springs, Brenda Henderson and CathyBenjamin, both of Brookhaven; his sister, Alean Fairman, ofBrookhaven; his 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
