Services for Johnnie Stepney, of Brookhaven, are 1 p.m. Sunday,Jan. 11, at Williams Mortuary Chapel with burial in New Hope M.B.Church Cemetery in Brookhaven.

Visitation is Saturday from 1 until 6 p.m. at the funeralhome.

Mr. Stepney, 84, died Jan. 3, 2009, at G.V. (Sonny) MontgomeryVA Medical Center in Jackson. He was born in Lincoln County onMarch 2, 1924, to Leon Stepney and Alma Purnell Stepney.

He attended New Hope school. He retired from Phillip BrothersLumber Company after 35 years of service. Mr. Stepney was a WorldWar II U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of Seventh Day AdventistChurch.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his sons, Leon Stepneyand Kenneth Rockingham; a sister, Jannie White; a brother, DavidStepney; and a granddaughter, Jazmine Stepney.

Survivors are his wife of 30 years, Flossie Stepney, ofBrookhaven; his children, Johnnie Stepney, of Tacoma, Wash., JerryStepney, of Houston, Texas, Linda Harris, of Hazlehurst, JohnathanStepney, of Monticello, Levois Rockingham, Carolyn Rockingham,Jacquelyn Rockingham, April Truss, Barbara McNulty, TeresaRockingham, all of Brookhaven, Gloria Maye, of Hazlehurst, LeteaserKoita, of Atlanta, Ga., Herman Rockingham, of Shreveport, La.,Kessler Rockingham, Isreal Rockingham, both of Brookhaven, andDavid Harris, Milwaukee, Wis.; his brothers, Roosevelt Stepney, ofHattiesburg, and Emmanuel Stepney, of St. Louis, Mo.; his sisters,China Finister, of Los Angeles, Calif., Vera Jackson, of Pacoima,Calif., Willie Social, of Hattiesburg, and Erma Robinson, ofBrookhaven; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren,great-great-grandchildren and other relatives.
