Willie Joe Wells Sr., 74, of the Moaks Creek Community, went tobe with his wife of 54 years, Edna, on Friday, Sept. 18, 2009, athis residence following a very lengthy illness. He was surroundedby his family who loved him dearly.

Mr. Wells was born Dec. 6, 1934 in Lincoln County to WillisWilliam Wells and Myrtis Green Wells. He was a retired carpenterand a member of Moaks Creek Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Willis William Wells;his wife, Edna Phillips Wells; his brother, Harry Arnold Wells; andhis sister, Dorothy “Dot” Clark.

Mr. Wells is survived by his mother, Myrtis Green Wells, ofSummit; his sons, Willie Joe “Joey” Wells Jr., and wife, Carol,Mark Wells and wife, Cindy, and Toby Wells, all of Summit; hisdaughter, Lorraine Wells, of Zachary, La.; his brother, James Wellsand wife, Billie Sue, of Greenwell Springs, La.; his sister, WildaMoak, of Summit; his grandchildren, Jeremy Marbury, of Zachary,Derek Marbury, of McComb, Krista Wells and William Speights, bothof Hattiesburg, Jason “Bug” Wells, Donald Joe Wells, Hailey Wellsand Keith Wells, all of Summit, and Bradley Wells and BrandyLawrence, both of Brookhaven; his great-grandchildren, AlyssaMarbury, of McComb, Autumn Wells, of Wesson, Laney Wells, EmilyLawrence, and Summer Richardson, all of Brookhaven, and KennedyCorona, of Zachary; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives,and many good friends.

The family will be receiving friends Monday at Catchings FuneralHome in McComb from 5 until 8 p.m. and will continue Tuesday atMoaks Creek Baptist Church from 10 a.m. until funeral servicesthere at 11 a.m. The Rev. Mike Alexander will officiate. Burialwill be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Joey Wells, Mark Wells, Toby Wells, JamesWells, Jim Wells and Jeremy Marbury. Honorary pallbearers will beDerek Marbury, Bradley Wells, Jason “Bug” Wells, Keith Wells and D.J. Wells.
